Applications: Pressurizing non-carbonated liquids (i.e. tea, juices, water, oils, etc.) and inerting any package that requires longer shelf life (wine, beer, peanuts, etc.)

VBS HOT CHUTE GREATLY REDUCES THE TIME LAPSE FROM LN2 INJECTION TO CLOSURE

Campbell, CA (March 29, 2004) VBS International, Inc., a leader in liquid nitrogen delivery systems for container pressurization and/or oxygen displacement, introduces the Hot Chute an extension for it’s existing line of LN2 transfer systems. With the Hot Chute, VBS has developed a method for dispensing liquid nitrogen (LN2) into a container just milliseconds prior to sealing. As the liquid nitrogen leaves the dosing head, a measured amount of LN2 is dispensed into a transfer head called the Hot Chute. By placing the Hot Chute next to the container sealing position, the time lapse from injection to closure is greatly reduced, as is the amount of pre-closure evaporation. This results in a tighter controller pressure range.

The Hot Chute delivers a precise atomized dose of LN2. In the past, with direct vertical injection, where splash back was more of a factor, the splash back material included some of the injected liquid nitrogen, thus causing a variance of pressure within each of the containers after capping. Here, by carefully controlling the dose delivery, and eliminating splash back, customers achieve a much more repeatable pressure specification. The Hot Chute can be completely integrated into the capper, practically eliminating any product or nitrogen splash during the container transfer. The likelihood of splashed-back liquid reaching and freezing on the injection head to potentially cause unit clogging is reduced resulting in improved line efficiency. Container pressurization accuracy is also improved, making the Hot Chute the ideal unit for any light-weight container. The Hot Chute permits the use of smaller amounts of cryogenic liquid per dose giving customers cost-saving benefits and greater performance accuracy.

In another application the Hot Chute may be used for injection of atomized liquid nitrogen droplets into containers such as gas tight packages before sealing to provide an inert atmosphere within the package after sealing. By displacing air/oxygen before sealing, freshness of the contents is preserved over a longer period of time. Typical packages for the use of inerting atmospheres include bottled water, wine bottles and potato chip bags.

The Hot Chute is fully compatible with VBS’ LCI-Series of LN2 injection equipment, which are used in hundreds of packaging facilities for container pressurization and nitrogen inerting. The Hot Chute can be retrofitted for existing LCI-Series customers.

The Hot Chute is patent pending. For current availability, please contact VBS Corporate or your local sales representative.
